Struma ovarii is a rare type of ovarian tumor that is composed mostly of thyroid tissue.

Struma ovarii can be benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous). The vast majority of struma ovarii are benign, but malignant tumors do occur in a small percentage of cases. Even when malignant, the cancer tends to be slow-growing.
